मन पछितैहै अवसर बीते।

दुर्लभ देह पाइ हरिपद भजु, करम, बचन अरु हीते॥ [1]

सहसबाहु, दसबदन आदि नृप, बचे न काल बलीते।

हम हम करि धन-धाम सँवारे, अंत चले उठि रीते॥ [2]

सुत-बनितादि जानि स्वारथ रत, न करु नेह सबहीते।

अंतहु तोहिं तजेंगे पामर! तू न तजै अबहीते॥ [3]

अब नाथहिं अनुरागु जागु जड़, त्यागु दुरासा जीते।

बुझै न काम-अगिनि तुलसी कहुँ, बिषयभोग बहु घी ते॥ [4]

Hindi Meaning

हे मन! यदि यह अवसर निकल गया तो अंत में केवल पश्चाताप ही हाथ लगेगा।

इस दुर्लभ मानव देह को पाकर, कर्म, वचन और हृदय—तीनों से श्री हरि के चरणों का अनन्य भाव से भजन कर। [1]

सहस्रबाहु और रावण जैसे महाबलशाली राजा भी काल के प्रचण्ड वेग से अपने को बचा न सके।

‘मैं’ और ‘मेरा’ के अहंकार में धन, वैभव और महलों को सजाते रहे, पर अंततः सब कुछ छोड़कर रिक्त हाथ चले गए। [2]

पुत्र, स्त्री और संबंधियों को ही अपना मानकर स्वार्थ के जाल में मत उलझ।

हे मूढ़ मन! अंत में ये सब तुझे त्याग देंगे—तो फिर तू पहले ही उनके मोह का त्याग क्यों नहीं कर देता? [3]

अरे जड़ मन! अब परम कृपालु प्रभु के प्रति अपने हृदय में प्रेम को जगा और व्यर्थ की आशाओं का परित्याग कर।

श्री तुलसीदास कहते हैं—विषय-भोग कामरूपी अग्नि को शांत नहीं करते, अपितु उसमें घी डालकर उसे और अधिक भड़काते हैं। [4]

ham ham kari dhana-dham snvare, ant chale uthi rite.. [2]

suta-banitadi jani svarath rat, n karu neh sabahite.

antahu tohin tajenge pamar! tu n tajai abahite.. [3]

ab nathahin anuragu jagu jada, tyagu durasa jite.

bujhai n kama-agini tulasi kahun, bishayabhog bahu ghi te.. [4]

Man Pachhitaihai Avasar Beete. Durlabh Deh Pai Haripad Bhaju, Karam, Bachan Aru Heete. [1] Sahasbaahu, Dasbadan Aadi Nrip, Bache Na Kaal Baleete. Ham Ham Kari Dhan Dhaam Sanvaare, Ant Chale Uthi Reete. [2] Sut Banitaadi Jaani Svaarath Rat, Na Karu Neh Sabheete. Antahu Tohin Tajenge Paamar! Too Na Tajai Abheete. [3] Ab Naathahin Anuraagu Jaagu Jad, Tyaagu Duraasa Jeete. Bujhai Na Kaam Agini Tulasi Kahen, Vishaybhog Bahu Ghee Te. [4] - Shri Tulsidas O mind! If this golden opportunity slips away, in the end you will do nothing except regret. You have attained this rare human birth, therefore, worship the lotus feet of Śrī Hari with exclusive devotion through action, speech, and heart. [1] Even mighty kings like Sahasrabāhu and Rāvaṇa could not save themselves from the fierce force of God of death. Lost in the pride of “I” and “mine,” they adorned wealth, splendor, and palaces—yet in the end they abandoned everything and departed empty-handed. [2] Do not become entangled in the web of selfish attachment by considering son, wife, and relatives alone as your own. O foolish mind! In the end they will all forsake you—so why not renounce their delusion now itself? [3] O incautious mind! Now awaken love for the supremely compassionate Lord and abandon vain hopes. Śrī Tulasīdāsa says—sense enjoyments do not extinguish the fire of desire; rather, they pour ghee into it and make it blaze all the more fiercely. [4]
