स्वारथमूल असुद्ध त्यों, सुद्ध स्वभावऽनुकूल।
नारदादि प्रस्तार करि, कियौ जाहि को तूल॥

Hindi Meaning
जो प्रेम स्वार्थ-भावना से युक्त होता है, उसे अशुद्ध प्रेम कहा जाता है और जो निष्काम अथवा सहज भाव से केवल प्रियतम के सुख के लिए किया जाता है, वही शुद्ध प्रेम कहलाता है।
नारद आदि महर्षियों ने इन दोनों प्रकार के प्रेम का विस्तारपूर्वक वर्णन किया है।

svarathamul asuddh tyon, suddh svabhavaऽnukul.
naradadi prastar kari, kiyau jahi ko tul..

Transliteration
Swarathmool Asuddh Tyon, Suddh Swabhaav-Anukool.
Naradadi Prastaar Kari, Kiyau Jaahi Ko Tool.
- Shri Raskhan, Prem Vatika (41)
That love which is mixed with selfish motive is called impure love; and that which is selfless, effortlessly performed solely for the happiness of the Beloved, is known as pure love. Nārada and other exalted sages have explained these two forms of love.
